The Matthews Foundry, on the banks of the Tuscarora Creek, was completed in 1851 and contributed significantly to the industrial history of the region by manufacturing and supplying water wheels and other iron works to the surrounding region.

The 2-story, 140 ft. x 45 ft. property is privately owned by investors who have restored the structure and seek additional support to address floodplain and riparian issues for the redevelopment of the site.

Environmental assessments show that the site faces no significant redevelopment restrictions due to contamination, and the owners hope to redevelop the building into a public-serving venue (restaurant, brewery, etc.) with creekside seating and event opportunities.
