Historic market House

Located at the key downtown corner of Burke & Queen Streets, the Market House is a historic city-owned property originally built to serve as Martinsburg’s and the Eastern Panhandle’s premier farmer’s market, allowing regional farmers a downtown location to supply area residents and the trains servicing routes to and from Washington, DC. The ground floor was comprised of vendor stalls for the farmers, while the upstairs held meeting space for civic organizations.

Over time, the use of the Market House as changed frequently. Today, the building is owned by the City of Martinsburg. Ground floor tenants include a mix of design, retail, and restaurant uses. The upstairs of the historic building is not currently leased and requires updating to meet ADA and building code requirements.

The City seeks partners interested in redeveloping the Market House in a way to contributes the the viability of downtown Martinsburg via a public-private partnership in which the City would retain title to the historic property, but would provide to the partner the rights to use and profit from the facility in exchange for making the necessary improvements to the structure.
