Brownfield & historic industrial redevelopment opportunities

The City of Martinsburg has been an industrial city from its founding. Our creeks powered the mills that helped build America’s first frontier. Being the gateway to the Shenandoah Valley, Martinsburg was a vital railroad town housing the B&O Railroad’s engine and machine shops within the still-vibrant and accessible Martinsburg Roundhouse. Access to both transportation and the raw materials of the surrounding agricultural community made Martinsburg a hub for industrial processing and manufacturing.

Today, many of the buildings that served these historic industrial purposes are underused and present opportunities for profitable, more community-serving redevelopment.

The City of Martinsburg welcomes partnership with any investor of developer seeking to rehabilitate and reuse historic industrial properties within the city. To assist potential investors in understanding the value of these properties, the City of Martinsburg has proactively conducted Phase I and limited Phase II environmental site assessments on a portfolio of key properties and maintains the services of consultants with experience in brownfield redevelopment and redevelopment finance.
